Winter | December, January, February
The holiday season is one of the most wonderful times of the year in Orange County! Temperatures remain relatively warm, with lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. Our area is an excellent escape from the cold, ice, and snow of many other regions during this season. While winter isn’t the best time for swimming in the ocean, you can still enjoy outdoor recreation in Newport Beach in December with hiking and biking at Crystal Cove State Park!
This season also holds some of our favorite annual events. A few of the Newport Beach Christmas traditions we look forward to each year include the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, the Lighting of the Bay at Newport Dunes, and Fashion Island’s Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Party. Bring the entire family to Orange County during the holiday season to experience some of these events like a local!
Spring | March, April, May
Spring is the perfect option for travelers seeking a quiet getaway. We call it Orange County’s “Secret Season” as it boasts fewer crowds and fantastic weather. During this season, you can expect temperatures between 50°F and 60°F, which is perfect for various outdoor recreation like hiking. Even better, you won’t have to pass many people on the trail or worry about a stranger in your photo-op!
Southern California’s dining scene is a melting pot of flavors from around the world. You can find nearly anything you’re craving here, from authentic global cuisine to refined American eats. Spring is the best time to avoid the waitlist at the most popular Newport Beach restaurants.
Summer | June, July, August
Summer is the most popular time to visit Orange County. Temperatures rarely rise above 80°F, which is perfect for spending long days outdoors. It’s the best time to visit California beaches! Although this time of year has the most tourist traffic, you can’t deny the beauty of a Southern California summer.
Newport Beach surfing is a must-try activity for anyone visiting in the summer. For beginners, we recommend taking a surfing lesson at one of the many surf schools in the area. Endless Sun Surf School is an excellent option for private single or group lessons.
More experienced surfers will love shredding The Wedge. This famous stretch on the northernmost point of the Balboa Peninsula is home to some serious surf. This stretch of ocean frequently cranks out 30-foot waves that are only suited for experienced surfers. Do not try to surf this area unless you have previous experience.
Fall | September, October, November
Fall is another great time to visit Orange County for a quiet getaway. During this season, tourism winds down, but the weather remains mostly the same. In autumn, you can still enjoy sunny skies and days by the shore. It’s also a great season to visit with the family and enjoy a quiet Newport Beach Thanksgiving!
